The construction of the new £820million green Terminal 2 building at London Heathrow Airport was awarded to HETCo (a joint venture of Ferrovial Agroman Airports Limited and Laing O’Rourke Holdings Limited) in 2010. Work began on site in May and encompassed the 180,000m2 Terminal 2a building and 10 aircraft stands that will reduce the carbon footprint by 40% from the 1950s Terminal 2 and Queen’s Building it has replaced. The vision for Terminal 2 focused on reducing CO2 and local air pollution, mitigating the impact of noise, and increasing the number of local people who benefit from the airport.
Fieldmans are responsible for the supply and installation of RMG, DRF (pre-bonded conglomerate), FDEB30 and FDEB38 Raised Access Flooring Systems to all levels and zones at Heathrow T2a. It is Fieldmans policy to continually better our beneficial impact on the environment, therefore we were extremely proud to be part of the construction of England’s greenest terminal. We also fit the bill for the provision of local labour with all of our operatives living in the Greater London area.
As a high profile building, the exceptional Health, Safety and Environmental performance at T2a was critical and the project continued to set new benchmarks and achieve the highest standards of quality. Amongst other acknowledgements, the project set a national record of 5.6 million consecutive RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) free hours, consistently achieved ‘Beyond Compliance’ in Considerate Constructors Scheme and is working towards an ‘Excellent’ rating in BREEAM classification.
Fieldmans worked hard for the duration of this project to ensure our Health, Safety and Environmental legacy at T2a and were recognised as Health & Safety Contractor of the Month in June 2013, as well as winning the Green Performance Award for exceptional environmental performance in the second quarter of 2013. As the saying goes, we’re Heathrow safe and proud of it.
