Raised access flooring systems are a key component of many modern office environments. In high-tech spaces such as control centres, computer rooms and IT data centres they are essential. Raised access floors provide an elevated structural floor which floats above a solid substrate. The elevated floor is supported by raised access flooring pedestals.
Raised access flooring pedestals should feature the following:
- Zinc-plated steel construction enabling good electrical continuity.
- Pre-assembly designed for efficient installation time.
- A range of heights, typically from 50mm to 600mm.
- Built-in height adjustment.
- Pedestal head caps giving positive panel location whilst ensuring electrical continuity to the baseplate.
- Locking nuts to ensure complete stability of pedestal heads.
- Full compliance with industry standard PSA or BSEN specifications.
The raised access floor pedestals are arranged to form a framework. Their heights are adjusted according to the requirements of the space. Once in place, removable floor panels can be fitted on top of the pedestals. The panels are usually made from steel and may feature a cement-like core.
The raised access floor panels are modular in design. This allows for easy installation and removal as required. Panels are available in a range of grades and thicknesses. The choice of panels comes down to considerations including: access requirements, safety standards, maintenance requirements and replacement costs.
A range of flooring finishes can be chosen to cover the panels. There is no need to compromise on design. Carpet tiles, wood laminates, stone and marble can all be used as finishes. For a more economical approach, panels can be left bare.
